Mr. Dago

I belong nowhere

(USA-Italy)

The third film is an epical musical on Italian-American Jewish migration after the racial laws Mussolini passed in 1938. The screenplay has been currently developed with scholar Matteo Pretelli and prof Mauro Canali. It is a great picture about the real and secret - so far - adventure of Italians in New York City during second world war when Sex and Cabaret, fascist fifth column and Jewish antifascist Intellectuals, mafia mobsters and enemy aliens, new immigrants as well as second generation of Italian-Americans were all piled up within a couple streets around Bowery. It is a super historically documented story completely unknown to international audiences, which would give a new image of Italian-Americans through the entertaining form of a musical.

I forgot to have a baby

Use is a romantic comedy of errors about the conflict between the desire for a family in today's America and the concept of family which resists in Sicily today. Liz and Deb, who are looking for a sperm donor at “any price”. Fabio and Matteo are two italian cousins living in Los Angeles and each day they scramble for odd jobs and worry about taking care of Matteo's little girl, Lilly. The ladies believe they can outwit the men and use them for their purposeÉ so do the boysÉ but we will see who will have who in the end. This is a double love story which comes out ok for the “wrong” reasons. It is a story full of irony, feelings, strokes of luck, vitality, optimism and determination.

I wrote the first film with senegalese writer Mbacke Gadji and co-produced it with Youssou N'Dour. It is a bitter sweet comedy about a Muslim Senegalese young tailor who arrives in Italy on one of those dodgy boats with the dream of Italian fashion and eventually makes it, even if he ends up in the difficult position of having two wives, one Italian one Senegalese and both knowing and hating each other. (based on a true story). Directed by Laura Muscardin (IT).
